Join Us on June 2nd

Guest applications for TEDxWinnipeg 2016 are now closed.

(We accepted applications from Friday February 19th until Friday, April 22nd.)

Apply to Attend? How Does that work?

2014-engagement-2All TEDx events are operated under license from TED. This license includes a number of specific guidelines and limitations. Up until 2015, our license allowed us to have up to 100 guests attend in person. For 2016, the number of guests will be increased to 230. Since we have always had significantly more applicants than we can have guests, we have developed a two-stage application process.

1. The first 50 applicants will be automatically accepted.

2. The final 170 applicants will be chosen from the remaining applications.

In addition to these guests, a number of volunteers and past speakers will also be in attendance.

Selection Process

2014-engagement-3All applications are blind-reviewed and people are accepted to attend based on the merit of their applications. In this way, we make sure we have a diverse and engaged audience, which is something TED strives for. We always have more applicants than spaces in the theatre for this inspiring event. A team of people reviews each application and scores them without knowing any identifying information about the applicant. The highest-scoring applications are then accepted until the maximum number of guests is reached. The application form itself isn’t long or difficult, but is designed to elicit a thoughtful response to a few questions. Simple yes/no or 1-5-word responses will score lower.

About the Event

This is an all-day event June 2, 2016 at the Tom Hendry Warehouse Theatre. Tickets are $25, payable only once you are selected. This fee includes the entire day of talks, coffee, water, lunch and snacks. The format is the same as the TED proper conference whereby speakers have a max of 18 minutes to present their “Idea Worth Spreading” (TED’s slogan).
