TEDxWinnipeg Speaker Application Form
We encourage you to read up on the TEDxWinnipeg speaker application process and some of the most frequent questions. As a reminder, a few things we consider when making our speaker selections are as follows:
- The idea:
- will it impact the audience, and how?
- does it apply locally, globally, or both?
- is it new or novel?
- The speaker:
- are you an expert in the field?
- why are you qualified to give this talk?
We anticipate a large number of applications, and look forward to receiving and reviewing yours! For one reason or another, each year we have to decline some excellent applications from qualified speakers with really interesting ideas. We always have applications to give more great talks than we can fit into our one-day program, and sadly have to decline ones we really want to have on our stage. Sometimes it’s because we’ve already had a talk that’s too similar or because they don’t fit into a cohesive group of talks for that year so if you aren’t selected, you may just need to apply again next year.
It will help your application to stand out if you can add any extra information to help show how it is unique, remembering that clarity is more important than length in your description. One area we have multiple speaker applications for every year is in the motivational category, so this is an area where it’s harder to stand out. If your talk fits into this space, we are looking for powerful motivational stories that are personal and yet broadly applicable in an inspirational way. If you are a professional motivational speaker and have given your talk elsewhere multiple times, it is likely not what we’re looking for unless you are planning a fresh take on the topic that makes it unique.
