From the political economy to the design economy; creating life, to life’s end; the life of a work of art, to finding voice and identity, “ideas worth spreading” will come to TEDxWinnipeg on June 6, 2017 at the RBC Convention Centre.
“TEDxWinnipeg once again brings unique ideas and new ways of thinking to curious and thoughtful minds as part of our mission to share ideas worth spreading,” says Nicole Jensen, event chair. “We are delighted to welcome guests to connect around new points of view and deep thinking moments, all in one inspiring day.”
Carefully selected to provoke discussion and expand ideas about a variety of topics, a range of speakers including filmmakers, a medical doctor, former politicians, artists, and scholars have been chosen to present at this year’s TEDxWinnipeg. The first eight speakers are being announced today. They are:
TED is a non-profit organization which began as a one-time event in 1984, and became an annual technology, entertainment and design conference in 1990. Devoted to spreading ideas in the form of short 18-minute talks, the events now cover a wide range of topics: from science to business to global issues. In 2010, TED began licensing independently run “TEDx” events which help share ideas in numerous communities around the world. It has become the most popular online lecture series, ever.
TEDx Winnipeg began in 2011 as TEDxManitoba. Past TEDxWinnipeg speakers have gone on to gain national and international attention, being interviewed by media such as the New York Times and The National, and being featured on the TED stage in New York. Videos of past TEDxWinnipeg Talks have been viewed online more than 400,000 times and are available at tedxwinnipeg.ca.
