TEDxWinnipeg is a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit, and the revenue we get from guest registration doesn’t come close to covering all of the event costs; leaving us dependent on sponsors to be able to bring everything together.
This led us to sit down with Kristin Cuma, Outreach Specialist at CWB Leasing, to discuss why supporting TEDxWinnipeg aligns with the company’s values, and why they’ve chosen to return as a sponsor for this year.
This isn’t your first time sponsoring TEDxWinnipeg; what makes you want to return as a sponsor for another year?
TEDxWinnipeg is a one-of-a-kind event that showcases innovation, supports growth right here in Winnipeg. We had a great experience last year, and the employees who attended said it was a very insightful day. How could we not come back?
What about TEDxWinnipeg aligns with your company values? What makes us a good fit for helping to present ideas worth spreading each year?
CWB National Leasing strives to be innovative and ahead-of-the-curve wherever possible. From our Take A Stand program, which supports employees’ charities of choice, to our award-winning, custom-built core system, FELIX, we are constantly improving and growing our business and culture.
Tell me about your role at CWB National Leasing; what do you enjoy most about what you do?
My role is Outreach Specialist, which means that I am responsible for outward-facing marketing initiatives like trade shows, community investment, and some employee engagement. I feel very fortunate to go to work every day and build relationships in our workplace and in our community. I believe businesses are responsible for being strong and helpful corporate citizens, and it’s a great honour to be able to shape how that looks for such a fun and successful Canadian company.
What’s one topic you’re passionate about that you’d love to see discussed on the TEDxWinnipeg stage?
Taking risks!
What’s the best book you’ve read lately, and why?
Daring Greatly, Brene Brown. Her words are backed in research and speak right to the truth of my being. It’s a good reminder to be daring when the time is right!
Is there one particular talk you’re especially looking forward to at this year’s TEDxWinnipeg?
Kerri Twigg – Burn your Old Resume, the Future of Work is here!
