Mohammad has helped hundreds of refugees find affordable and appropriate housing in Manitoba. His experience as a real estate developer informs his talk on the need to revolutionize how we deliver social housing in Canada, including the benefits of social housing for everyone.
Mohammad Almaleki arrived in Canada as a refugee in 2001, experiencing firsthand the challenges of social housing while growing up in inner-city Manitoba. Driven by a passion for social advocacy and entrepreneurship, Mohammad founded Almaleki Developments in his early 20s with a focus on delivering affordable housing solutions. His innovative approach led to early successes, including providing homes for the first wave of Syrian refugees in 2016. Recognized for his impactful work, Mohammad has been honored as a Future Leader of Manitoba and named in CBC’s Future 40 Under 40. Today, he continues to champion accessible housing and community development, bridging his personal experiences with visionary entrepreneurship to create lasting social change. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
