Details for Guests at TEDxWinnipeg 2018

Attending TEDxWinnipeg?  We have details for you!

When:  June 13th. Registration opens at 8am. Doors open at 8:15am, and we should be wrapping up for the day by 4:30pm. When you arrive, please line up at the registration desk corresponding to the first letter in your last name, and have your ticket ready to present. Note for sponsors: you have a separate registration table and should not line up by name.

Entry: You must bring your unique ticket (printed or mobile) for event access. Please present your ticket at registration to retrieve your nametag which will be your key to the event. If you don’t have your ticket, please re-check your email — including your spam folder! If you bring ID we can find you on our list, but your ticket will help speed things up and avoid errors.

Where: RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg, 375 York Avenue.  We’re in the North (older) building, in rooms 1–13. You will find the registration tables and enter the space from under the escalators on the main floor.

Parking: there are two lots at the Convention Centre, both accessible off Carlton. This nearby parking costs approximately $20 for the day, but there are other lots downtown that are close too — we’ve got a map for additional downtown parking to help you out. Please note that parking at a meter on the street is $4/hour and has time limits that will impede your ability to enjoy the day when you have to move your vehicle and re-feed the meter.

Transit: We’re also on or close to almost all of the major bus routes that hit downtown Winnipeg. You can use Winnipeg Transit’s route planner to confirm your routes and times.

Dress: Most people tend toward business casual. Good comfortable shoes are a must, and you should wear whatever makes you comfortable and best represents who you are, whether that be jeans, a suit or a dress.

Food:  We’ll provide a buffet lunch and mid-morning and afternoon coffee. If you need your caffeine fix first thing, be sure to bring your morning java (there are a variety of spots that are a block away or less). If you have any dietary restrictions, please bring some snacks. We will do our best to ensure we’ve covered options for common allergies/restrictions but it’s better to be safe than sorry!

What to Bring:
1. An open mind: Talk to the person next to you, in front of you, or behind you. Play that game. Ask a speaker a question. You never know where a conversation will lead!
2. A pen. We have note taking space in the program, or you can bring your favorite notebook.
3. Your mobile device of choice. Free WiFi is available, and we will encourage you to share, tweet, -gram, blog, or otherwise spread what you see and hear online, in real-time.
4. Your business ideas/materials so our partners in the Idea Lounge can share their knowledge and resources.
*Remember that whatever you bring, you carry for the day since we don’t have lockers to hold personal items.

Powering up: we don’t have a charging station, so please bring your adapters/cords if you believe you might use up all your battery power.

Live streaming: if your friends, family or colleagues can’t come, let them know they can watch the livestream on our website at tedxwinnipeg.ca/livestream/.

Special access to presenter information: For our low vision, blind and deaf guests, please email [email protected] to let us know you’ll need a link to the slides being used by the presenters for your adaptation program of choice. We can’t guarantee the speakers won’t change their slides by show time, but hopefully the changes will be minimal.

Hug a Volunteer! Hug a Sponsor!

TEDxWinnipeg takes a tremendous amount of human energy and resources to pull together, and is almost entirely volunteer-based. We are incredibly grateful for the people that have stepped forward to donate their time and financial contributions to help make this event a success. Take the time to view our sponsor page and prepare your hug-attack when you see them.

Day-Of Help: On June 13, if you have questions, look for someone with a red and white TEDx shirt on. Our guest experience committee will be matching and ready to help you! Volunteers will also have nametags indicating that they are a volunteer or committee member who can help point you in the right direction or answer questions.

Finally, on behalf of all the incredible people working to make this event a success, we look forward to spending the day with you Wednesday, June 13 at the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg!
