We’re delighted that Robert J. Sawyer will return to TEDxManitoba in 2012 with a brand new talk.
Robert J. Sawyer is one of only eight writers ever to have won all three of the world’s top awards for best science-fiction novel of the year: the Hugo Award (which he won for Hominids), the Nebula Award (for The Terminal Experiment), and the John W. Campbell Memorial Award (for Mindscan). The ABC TV series FlashForward was based on his novel of the same name. His 21st novel, Triggers, comes out in April 2012.
What motivates you?
The firm belief that the universe is comprehensible, that nothing is beyond human understanding, and that science is our best tool for discovering the truth.
What do you do for a living and why?
I’m a science-fiction writer. My job is to get people to think rationally, jarring them out of their complacency, and make them active participants in determining the future of humanity.
