TEDxWinnipeg is a volunteer-run nonprofit organization dedicated to spreading innovative ideas through an annual one-day event in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Since its inception in 2011, originally known as TEDxManitoba, the event has showcased over 150 TEDx Talks, each representing an idea worth spreading.

Volunteers are the backbone of TEDxWinnipeg, contributing to various aspects such as event planning, speaker coordination, marketing, and guest services. By volunteering, you become part of a dynamic team committed to fostering conversation, connection, and community.

We volunteer because we want to give back. We volunteer because we believe that a powerful idea, shared well, can open minds, start conversations, and inspire people to see what is possible.

Much of our work happens behind the scenes: helping speakers refine their message, build confidence, and reach new levels of clarity and presence. It is careful, generous work — and it can be deeply rewarding to watch someone grow from a first idea into a memorable talk on stage.

Most of all, we volunteer because we care about Winnipeg. By finding and amplifying the very best ideas in our community, we help make our city more thoughtful, more connected, and more ambitious about its future.

Find Your Place at TEDxWinnipeg

There are two main ways to get involved. Many people join us as day-of volunteers, helping create a smooth, welcoming event through roles such as ushering, guest support, setup, teardown, and other on-site activities. Others become part of our core team, contributing their skills months in advance in areas such as marketing, finance, project management, speaker coordination, technical production, and more.

We always need enthusiastic day-of volunteers, and from time to time we also have openings for core team roles. Whether you want to lend a hand on event day or bring your experience to the planning team, volunteering with TEDxWinnipeg is a meaningful way to support great ideas, meet terrific people, and help create something special for our city.

Coordinate the Maker’s Market by recruiting and selecting the best local vendors.
Coordinate the physical setup on event day.

Event Setup and Teardown (May 26/27 All Day)

Set up and dismantle event spaces and marketing materials.
Set up attendee engagement activities.

Green Room Speaker Support / Runner (May 27 All Day)

Provide comprehensive support for speakers during the event, including water, notes, and handling any last-minute requests.

Craft Services & Volunteer Lounge Organizer (May 26/27)

Assist with food and beverage coordination, including replenishing supplies in the volunteer lounge.
Ensure speakers and volunteers are well-catered in terms of meals and snacks.
Maintain the medical kit and supplies.

Event Ambassador (May 27)

Guide attendees seamlessly from parking lots to the event entrance.
Assist with attendee check-in and efficient distribution of event materials.
Offer a warm welcome and guide attendees to their designated seats.
Provide comprehensive event information and answer inquiries at an information booth.
Direct attendees to various rooms and services.
Ensure cleanliness in washrooms and general areas.
Facilitate engaging activities for attendees.
Foster positive interactions and create a welcoming atmosphere for all participants.

Hair & Makeup (May 27)

Provide speakers with professional touch-up hair styling and makeup services.

Merchandising (A few weekends & evenings in May, May 26/27)

Assist in merchandise preparation, labeling, and boxing.
Facilitate on-the-day sales of merchandise.

Backstage Technical Support (May 26/27)

Facilitate seamless hand-off of speaker microphones backstage.
Micing up speakers.
Video tech assistance.

Security (May 27)

Ensure good order during the event.
Identify and escalate issues as required.
Handle lost & found items.
Coordinate emergency assistance if required.
